Onion Theft

As onion prices continue to spiral, several thefts have been reported across the country in the past few weeks. One such case came across in Mumbai where the theft has been caught on a surveillance camera.

After cases of theft of onions were reported recently, farmers in Madhya Pradesh have taken to guarding their crops by patrolling their fieldsnight and day. Onions, now the staple of political debates besides the kitchen due to its skyrocketing prices, are now selling for as high as Rs 120 in many parts of the country.

After the theft of 700 kg of onion from a Mumbai shop, robbers have now decamped with about 2,000 kg of the pricey kitchen staple from the godown of a Nashik farmer.

Amidst spiralling prices of onion, about 700 kg stock of the key kitchen staple worth Rs 50,000 was allegedly stolen from a shop in suburban Mumbai, informed the police.
