Chikungunya Cases On A Rise Since 2006

Chikungunya may cause long-term symptoms, caused by the virus which is passed on by mosquito bite. Characteristic symptoms include sudden onset with high fever, joint pain, and rash. Since 2004, the disease has occurred in outbreaks in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

A 58-year-old Delhi Police sub-inspector (SI) and his friend were attacked with bricks and injured by two bike-borne mobile phone snatchers, police said on Monday. One of the attackers was later arrested.

A 27-year-old armyman set his wife and himself on fire by pouring petrol and lighting a match following a heated argument in New Delhi, police said on Monday. The couple have been admitted to a hospital where their condition is critical.
