Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd, which operates a chain of hospitals, surged more than 38 per cent in its stock market debut on Wednesday, as investors bet on growing demand for private healthcare services in Asia's third-largest economy.

Narayana Hrudayalaya's Rs 613 crore initial public offer (IPO), which was open between December 17 to December 21, was oversubscribed 8.7 times. The issue got overwhelming response from institutional investors. The section reserved for qualified institutional bidders (QIB) was subscribed 24.3 times.

Ending the IPO drought, 21 companies have entered Dalal Street in 2015 with initial public offers to garner Rs 13,600 crore - the highest in five years - and an impressive pipeline is already in place for the new year.
