The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday allowed the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to hold CA May/July 2021 exams and asked it to modify the rules of providing opt-out facility to students.

While the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is set to hold the CA foundation, inter and final exams in July, several students including CAs have been urging the institute to include an opt-out facility in the CA May/July session.

The petition filed by CA students has asked for the Supreme Court’s direction to the ICAI to include an opt-out facility in the CA May session examination, allowing students to carry forward their candidature to the next session of these exams.

The opt-out facility will be for students who test positive for Covid-19, and for students with an infected family member – parents, grandparents, spourse, children and siblings, the ICAI said.

The petition has asked for the Supreme Court’s direction to the ICAI to include an opt-out facility in the May CA exams, allowing students to carry forward their candidature to the next session of these exams.

The ICAI has also said the window for changing exam city for these exams will be reopened from June 9 to June 11 at icaiexam.icai.org.

Petitioner Risha Lodha had appeared in CA intermediate examinations in January this year. Before appearing for the exams, she sent an e-mail to the institute highlighting the COVID situation and saying if examinations are held, it may lead to an exponential growth in infection cases.

ICAI coaching classes will be held for the students of the Intermediate course appearing in the CA November 2021 exam and the Final course for November 2021 and May 2022 exams. Students can attend classes at live.icai.org or ICAI CA YouTube channel.
