A US court has sentenced two people to three years in prison after charging them with hate crime for brutally assaulting a Sikh-American man last year in California.

District Attorney official's in Contra Costa, US, filed hate crime charges against six who attacked a Sikh-American, severely injuring him. According to the Sikh Coalition, attacks on sikhs in America has gone up several times since 9/11 attacks in the US.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with an alleged hate crime attack on a 41-year-old Sikh-American IT professional in the US, police said today.

Maan Singh Khalsa was stopped at a red light in Richmond, Calif., when, authorities say, a group of white men in a pickup truck began to attack him, completely unprovoked.

Maan Singh Khalsa, 41, an IT professional in California, was driving home on the night of September 25 when a group of men in car threw a beer can at his vehicle. Shouting that his hair be cut off, the men pulled his head out of the window, and cut a fistful of his hair with a knife, alleged Mr Khalsa.
