Italian tourists abducted: Maoists' deadline ends today

After the Maoists - who abducted two Italians in Odisha - named three interlocutors for negotiations with the state government, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked them to suggest alternative names for at least two of the proposed mediators. The deadline given by the Maoists for the government to respond to their 13-point demand ends today.

Maoists have made new demands for the release of the two Italians abducted in Odisha's Kandhamal district. They want three of their leaders, Gana-nath Patra, Subha-shree Panda and Ashutosh Soren released. They also want search and combing operations against them suspended.

Two Italian citizens were taken hostage by Maoists at an undisclosed location in Odisha's Kandhamal district on Saturday. One of the two abducted men, Boscusco Paolo, has been visiting Odisha sinch 1999 and runs a travel agency in Puri that takes foreign tourists on tribal tours. The other, Clandio Colangilo, is a tourist.
