Supreme Court allows conditional release of Italian ship

The Enrica Lexie, an Italian merchant vessel will be allowed to leave Kerala and sail home. The Supreme Court today sanctioned the release of the ship which has been anchored at Kochi since two local fishermen were shot in February by marines who were guarding the Lexie.

Families of Kerala fishermen withdraw compensation case

The families of the two fishermen, allegedly killed by Italian Marines, have withdrawn their cases demanding compensation for the tragedy. The Kerala High Court allowed the family members to withdraw the affidavits and submissions made by them against Italy's plea to quash the FIR registered against the two marines.

A Kerala court on Thursday extended by one week the police custody of two Italian Marines arrested for the killing of two Indian fishermen. Italy offered to cooperate, but said the weapons of the two arrested marines should be examined in their presence and underlined that the vessel was in international waters.

Three days after guards onboard an Italian oil tanker killed two Indian fishermen off the Kollam coast in Kerala, the ship's crew has finally relented. Kochi Police Commissioner MR Ajith Kumar, who visited the Italian ship Enrica Lexie on Saturday evening said the crew has agreed to hand over the two suspects.
