A senior police officer, Baljit Singh, was shot dead on Monday morning while fighting terrorists in the Gurdaspur region on Punjab near the border with Pakistan. Seven people were killed in the attack.

One of the policemen injured in the terror attack on a police station in Punjab's Gurdaspur early this morning said gunfire erupted at around 5.45 am. Eight including five policemen have been killed in the attack.
