Unemployment Rate Inches Down Thanks To Rural India: Think Tank

India's unemployment rate improved slightly to 7.09 per cent in the week ending July 25, CMIE data showed. It stood at 7.41 per cent in the previous week. The monthly joblessness rate also fell marginally from around 10 per cent in June.

Referring to a report of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today that the state's unemployment rate stood at 6.5 per cent in June this year, which was "far better" than the national average at 11 per cent.
