BSNL, MTNL to Raise Rs. 19,356 Crore Through Government Bonds, Merchant Bankers Say

BSNL and MTNL, the country's state-run telecom operators, intend to raise an aggregate of Rs. 19,356 crore through government-guaranteed bonds, according to three merchant bankers. MTNL is looking to issue bonds maturing in 10 years and will pay a semi-annual coupon, similar to how central government bonds are priced.

Telecom subscribers in India increased by 2.9 million in April, according to TRAI data. The total number of wireless subscribers in India is now at 1,170.73 million, according the regulator. Jio gained the most subscribers with 3.1 new users, while Airtel added 1.02 million subscribers. Vodafone Idea lost 759,258 subscribers during April.
