Airlines To Buy New Aircraft

Indian airlines are likely to induct more than 900 aircraft in the coming years, with IndiGo alone expected to add 448 planes, according to official data. The profitable no-frills carrier, which came into existence in August 2006, also has the largest number of aircraft on order, with more than 450 to be delivered in coming years.

Asian airlines are driving much of the growth in big planemaker order books, and analysts expect India's market to grow substantially over the next decade as millions fly for the first time each year.

Kingfisher Airlines, SpiceJet and IndiGo have been permitted to directly buy jet fuel from foreign sources.

In a revised complaint filed before a US court, the Air Transport Association of America, Delta Air Line and Air Line Pilots Association International, have alleged that Exim Banks decision to provide a loan guarantee of $3.4 billion to Air India, to help it buy 30 aircraft from Boeing, would badly affect several US airlines.
