The founding family of the 127-year-old Godrej Group has agreed to split the conglomerate. In this division, Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir will retain ownership of Godrej Industries, which includes five listed firms.

Jamshyd Godrej and his sister Smita Crishna Godrej will inherit Godrej & Boyce, along with its affiliates and substantial real estate assets, including prime property in Mumbai. 

In an ownership redistribution,the billion-dollar venture will now be splitinto two branches of the family. Adi and Nadir Godrej will maintain control of Godrej Industries, which includes five listed firms.

The founding family of 127-year-old Godrej Group, which spans from soaps and home appliances to real estate, has reached an agreement to split the conglomerate.

The group is looking for a complete large-scale division between two groups -- one led by Adi and Nadir, and the other by Jamshyd and his sister Smitha Godrej Crishna.

Adi Godrej will step down as Chairman from the board of directors at Godrej Industries. Nadir Godrej, who is currently Managing Director, will take over as the new Chairman and Managing Director.
