The 2018 judgment upholding the validity of the giant national ID scheme Aadhaar need not be reviewed, the Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday, dismissing petitions which challenged the order on grounds that the government had pushed the programme bypassing a vote in the Rajya Sabha.

Opposing the Aadhaar Bill 2016 in Lok Sabha on Thursday, Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha lawmaker Mahua Moitra said that the bill violates the Supreme Court judgment and lacks transparency.

RS Sharma, Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court's judgment on Aadhaar and said he is "extremely happy" with the verdict.

Calling it historic and landmark, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court judgment on Aadhaar and said the reasonable conditions and restrictions imposed on the private usage of unique identity data would further strengthen it.
