Heavy Rain Forecast in Tamil Nadu, Schools and Colleges to Remain Shut

At least 43 people have lost their lives in rain related incidents in the Cuddalore district in the last two weeks.

Chennai:

School and colleges in parts of Tamil Nadu will remain shut due to a forecast of heavy rainfall in the state today, officials said.

The Metrological Department (Met) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Tuesday, following a trough of low pressure near Comoron.

Chennai and various other districts of Tamil Nadu including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Vellore and Cuddalore have declared a rain hoilday for schools and colleges today.

"On November 9, Cuddalore bore the brunt of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal that made its landfall in the district," said a Met official.

At least 43 people have lost their lives in rain related incidents in the Cuddalore district in the last two weeks. Huts, crops and  roads have suffered damages. Power, drinking and water supply to several villages have also been affected.
