UDF Govt has blind anti-marxist approach: Pinarayi Vijayan

Kannur: State CPI(M) secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today alleged that the Congress-led United Democratic Front government was trying to ruin CPI(M) and that it was afflicted with a 'blind anti-marxist' approach.

'The government is following a blind anti-marxist policy and trying to implicate political opponents in fake cases. We will defend such moves with support of the masses," he said

He was speaking after visiting party workers injured in clashes with Congress and IUML activists in yesterday's dawn to dusk hartal called by the party to protest arrest of its Kannur district CPI(M) secretary P Jayarajan in a murder case.

Vijayan alleged that Jayarajan was arrested in the case and that police did not have any evidence against him.

Party workers have been 'brutally assaualted' by police during the hartal in Kannur, he said, adding nearly 120 people are receiving treatment in various hospitals.

Lashing out at police, he alleged that a senior party functionary N Chandran was brutally assaulted by them under instruction from top police officials.

On deployment of central forces in Kannur, he said government would not be able to scare CPI(M) with such moves.

CPI(M) never indulged in violence and always tried to solve problems amicably, he said.

Criticising government's plan for enacting a law to ensure protection of police officials probing cases as well as their families, Vijayan sought to know if there was a dearth of law in the state.

Earlier, he also criticised the government for allegedly registering cases against CPI(M) workers. 'If the present trend continues, thousands of people would fall prey to such fake cases', he said.

Police have already registered cases against 250 CPI(M) activists and leaders including former minister P K Sreemathy and state committee member MV Jayarajan on charges of violating prohibitory orders during a protest march here on August 1.
