Amid raids, Yeddyurappa asks for anticipatory bail: 10 big facts
Bangalore: BS Yeddyurappa has given the BJP much to worry about this week. He stopped short of quitting the party on Monday, along with a large group of supporters, which could have cost the BJP its first government in the South. But Mr Yeddyurappa is also feeling the heat. The CBI is raiding him homes, and those of his relatives, today. Here are 10 big developments on this story:

1. The politician has asked for anticipatory bail after the CBI registered an FIR against him in a case of illegal mining yesterday.

2. A nine-member team of investigators will determine whether Mr Yeddyurappa favoured mining companies who donated large sums of money to a chartiable trust run by his family.

3. Raids were conducted today at Mr Yeddyurappa's homes in Bangalore and Shimoga, about 270 kms from the state capital.

4. The homes of his sons, B Y Raghavendraa and B Y Vijayendra were also raided. The former is a BJP MP.

5. On Friday, the Supreme Court ordered the CBI to investigate Mr Yeddyurappa's relationship with the firms who donated generously to his family's trust when he was chief minister.

6. Mr Yeddyurappa was forced to resign from that post last year after the state's ombudsman or Lokayukta indicted him in a report on illegal mining.

7. Mr Yeddyurappa was till recently demanding that he be brought back as chief minister. He has now changed his stand to ask that the head of the government be a member of his Lingayat community, a powerful vote bank.

8. The BJP has so far refused to consider firing Sadananada Gowda as chief minster He was hand-picked by Mr Yeddyurappa as his successor, but their relationship has been strained recently, largely because of mr Yeddyurappra's attempts to displace his replacement.

9. Nine ministers in Mr Gowda's government and many MLAs have submitted their resignations to Mr Yeddyurappa as a show of support. They say they will hand those in formally as soon as he signals that's what he wants.

10. Mr Yeddyurappa is also facing charges of illegally denotifying land to benefit his family -he allegedly allowed land that was acquired for public projects to be sold to companies linked to his children at below-market rates.
