42 Dead In Bihar Rain, Rescue And Relief Operations Intensified

At least 42 people have died in rain-related incidents in Bihar following a torrential spell that took place between September 27 and 30, authorities said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi and his family wereamong hundreds of people in Patna who were stranded in their homes after the city was pounded by rain, the heaviest in two decades. Mr Modi was seen being taken in an orange, inflatable rubber boat along with other people.

Heavy rain continues to batter Patna where three days of incessant downpour has flooded many parts of the city, bringing life to a standstill for thousands of people. Three teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed and more rescue teams are expected to reach later in the day.
