The tireless efforts of devoted volunteers and veterinarians have resulted in the rescue and rehabilitation of an injured spotted deer in Chennai.

The deer was rescued by the volunteers at the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary. He was later taken to the advanced facility at Vandalur Zoo. 

Under the care of Dr Sridhar, a team of skilled veterinarians embarked on a delicate surgical procedure to mend the deer's fractured leg. Describing the procedure, Supriya Sahu shared, “The beautiful little spotted deer that you see in the video is recovering well after he was found with a fractured leg in Chennai. Volunteers at the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary rescued him carefully and brought him to the advanced facility at Vandalur Zoo.”

The surgery, conducted under general anaesthesia, involved the placement of external skeletal fixators with clamps and screws to stabilise the fracture.

Through the combined efforts of the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary, the Vandalur Zoo veterinarians, and the facilitation by the Chennai wildlife warden, the deer underwent a successful operation, paving the way for its eventual recovery.

The heartwarming story touched the hearts of many on social media.

Expressing his gratitude, a user said, “This is so amazing to see, and knowing that the little one is doing well. Mam, you and your team are really awesome. Thank you for bridging that gap between wild and normal.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added, “Such heartwarming news! Thank you to the incredible team at BMAD and Vandalur Zoo for their dedication and expertise in helping this little deer recover.”
