Mumbai: Four persons, working in footwear shops, were arrested on Sunday for allegedly murdering a thief, who attempted to steal valuables from a shop in suburban Goregaon here, police said.

"The thief, identified as Ajit Lohar, sneaked into a shop near Topiwalla Compound to steal cash in the wee hours today, when Dilip Jaiswal, sleeping in the shop, woke up and raised an alarm," Shivaji Mandle, senior inspector at Goregaon police station said on Sunday.

Three others, M Malla, K Sahani and P Shah, sleeping in other adjacent footwear shops, woke up and they all started thrashing Lohar with bamboos and kicking him for trying to steal valuables from the shop, he said.
