Navi Mumbai Hospital treating Abu Salem turns into a fortress
Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Hospital in neighbouring Vashi has been turned into a fortress with tight security all around as doctors conduct emergency medical procedures to extract a bullet from Salem's right hand. The bullet reportedly struck the gangster between his fingers and palm. According to doctors at NMMC, Salem is currently conscious and undergoing treatment.

"He is admitted in the trauma ward of the hospital. The bullet has entered his right hand near the palm and he needs to be operated upon in order to remove it. He is conscious though," informed an on-duty doctor of the hospital.

Dr Prashant Jawade, medical superintendent of Vashi's NMMC, confirmed that Salem had been brought to the hospital and that the bullet had hit his right hand.

Commissioner of the Navi Mumbai police arrived at Taloja jail late at night and took stock of the situation.

Talking about the alleged shooter Jagtap, a source said, "Jagtap had started out as an estate agent in Pune. He later got involved in a fight over property and appeared on the police radar. The cops later implicated him in other cases as well. That is how he got involved with the underworld."

Meanwhile, Santosh Shetty's lawyer KM Mhatre told MiD-DAY, "My client has nothing to do with the shooting. In fact he doesn't even know JD. Shetty is currently lodged at Arthur Road jail, how could he have anything to do with this shooting?"
