D Y Patil university goes truly international

Mumbai: Post the accreditation of Grade 'A' by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in September 2009, Padmashree Dr DY Patil University at Nerul has been extending newer academic opportunities for its students. Series of MoUs has been signed with prominent universities situated abroad so as to forge wider interest and avenues for the students.

The student's exchange programme with the Utrecht University of Applied Science in the Netherlands was one of the successful initiatives to be undertaken in the month of June, 2010. The resultant memorandum is informed to have given 48 medical and 7 physiotherapy students of DY Patil University an exposure to the multi disciplinary approach adopted in the field of medicine internationally.

"We are signing numerous MoUs so that our students get the best possible exposure during their academic period. It could also render a concrete course to their career choices," said Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr James Thomas. The memorandum with Utrecht enabled students from medicine and physiotherapy to spend two weeks in the Netherlands as part of Summer School Programme. The participating students learned the different approach to rehabilitation of hand, stroke etc. Five faculty members had also travelled along with the students for this programme.

Recently, the university inked an MoU with the Harrison College, Indianapolis USA that will aid in the students exchange programme for management studies.

Students in their third and fourth year as well the interns will be considered for this exchange programmes. The benefits of the programme are extended to the faculty members as well. "MoUs comprise of essentially students exchange and faculty exchange and collaborative research. There is an understanding existing between the college and university concerned as well that works in the interest of both the parties involved," said the professor. A similar memorandum is to be signed by the Edinburgh University for Nursing allied health science and medicines The faculty of Edinburgh University had even visited Nerul university to look into the aspects of signing the MoU.
