Repair Potholes Or Get Kidnapped: Mumbai Corporator Warns Official

A Mumbai corporator has threatened to "kidnap" officer if he fails to address the problems of potholes.

Mumbai: In a bizarre way to draw the attention of civic official towards sorry state of roads, a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena corporator has threatened to "kidnap" a ward officer if he fails to address the problems of potholes.

MNS Dadar corporator Sandip Deshpande wrote a letter to G-North ward in-charge Ramakant Biradar last week in which he made the threat.

"Yes, I have written a letter to the officer concerned and warned to kidnap him if the issue of potholes is not solved. But try to look at the reasons why I was forced to remind the officer in such a way," Mr Deshpande said.

"People have elected me to raise their voice effectively and I have done the same. Roads in my area have turned a hell for pedestrians and motorists and these are the things which I have highlighted in my letter to the ward officer," he said.

When contacted G-North ward in-charge officer, Mr Biradar said he is attending to the problems of the residents and filling up of potholes is the priority.

"We are taking up pothole filling work as our top priority. Our officers are available in the office as well as in my ward area for over 14 hours a day for service. There are very few potholes in Dadar area," he said.

"Dadar is neat and tidy. Situation of my abduction will not arrive. We are always at the door step for services of people," he added.

RTI activist Anil Galgali, who has filed a complaint against tainted road contractors with the Lokayukta, said, "Not just Dadar, roads across the city are full of potholes. It's high time civic officials start taking citizens' problems very seriously."
