Alert motormen save drunk man who strayed on to railway tracks

Mumbai: Two alert motormen saved the life of a drunk man who had strayed onto the tracks by bringing their respective trains to a screeching halt, inches away from running over him at Masjid Bunder station. The man, who probably did not realise the magnitude of his adventure, escaped miraculously without a scratch.

He had jumped down from platform number two at Masjid station to go over to platform three, but lost his balance, fell down and collapsed on the tracks in the way of a CST-bound harbour train.

The alert motorman immediately slammed emergency brakes to stop inches away from the man, who by now had stood up and in the way of the train coming from another direction.

The second motorman too slammed brakes and the man, on his own trip, fell over the tracks again. Commuters who were watching the drama from both the platforms were too stunned to react. Two of them then lifted him up physically and dumped him onto the platform.

Even as commuters abused and reprimanded him, he simply said sorry and slept again. The government railway police then called a stretcher and transported him out of the railway premise.
