The Punjab Government on Thursday finalised the Project Report of Rs 9,840 crore ambitious Ludhiana Metro, paving way for its submission to Union Government for final approval.
At a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal the "financial model" for the Ludhiana Metro was also approved "so that there should be least financial burden on people of Punjab".
Relief and resettlement policy for the project was also finalised in the meeting.
Mr Badal directed that there should be minimum possible displacement of people due to the project and Metro Authority can go for underground lines instead of displacing people, even if it may raise the price of project.
The 15.798 kilometre-long Corridor-I of the project will run from Ayali Chowk on Ferozepur Road to BBMB Power House on the Chandigarh Road.
Corridor-II, spanned over a distance of 13.035 kilometres, will connect Gill village and Rahon Road Octroi post. This corridor will have 13 stations - six elevated and seven underground.
It was also decided that Ludhiana Metro be covered under Delhi Metro Railway Operation and Maintenance Act, 2002 and other legal framework controlling Delhi Metro.
Mr Badal approved the Metro Alignment from Aayali Chowk to BBMB Power Chowk that would have 15.70 kilometres out of which 12.152 kilometres would be elevated and the remaining distance would be underground.
It would have 11 elevated and 3 underground stations, an official release said in Chandigarh.
