British model-actress Liz Hurley was in Mumbai last week, attending an event titled 'Help The Hathi' for the charity Elephant Family. And when in India, Liz Hurley goes desi, the whole six yards - she wasn't passing up the chance to wear a saree, a garment she has been pictured in often. The 52-year-old star of films like Bedazzled wore what looks like a white georgette saree embellished with mukaish work and a metallic bindi, finished with a pair of glittering earrings. A full-length picture is available on Vogue India's Instagram:

Her makeup was simple - smoky eyes and pale lips:

Liz Hurley has quite the affinity with India. She used to be married to part-Indian businessman Arun Nayyar and made the saree a part of her closet staples. Pink is a favourite colour. Here she is in a an embroidered fuchsia saree with a heavy polki necklace.

Good morning, India. Always a pleasure to be here

In 2010, Liz Hurley learnt an important sartorial lesson after wearing a sheer saree - never skip the blouse. Liz is no shy violet - she gave the Nineties one of its most iconic fashion moments in a black Versace dress held together with giant safety pins - but the raised eyebrows ensured she has never again dispensed with a saree blouse.

If Liz Hurley's saree credentials aren't enough, this picture might explain why she was invited to the Help The Hathi event in Mumbai:

Liz Hurley, who starred in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and appeared on Gossip Girl, is currently starring in TV show The Royals, based on a fictionalised British royal family. She plays the lead role of Queen Helena alongside a cast that includes The Chronicles Of Narnia actor William Moseley.
