Suffering from a respiratory tract infection and fluid accumulation in the lungs, Suchitra Sen was admitted to the hospital on December 23.

Kolkata: Actress Suchitra Sen remains in a stable condition at a private hospital but her fluctuating heart rate is a cause of concern for the doctors attending on her.

On a course of antibiotics and other supportive therapies for her respiratory ailment, the 82-year-old actress needs continuous monitoring for fluctuating heart rate and oxygen saturation, said a health bulletin issued by Belle Vue clinic today.

Suffering from a respiratory tract infection and fluid accumulation in the lungs, Ms Sen was admitted to the hospital on December 23.

Doctors said she had a good sleep last night and normal prescribed diet as all her vital parameters remained satisfactory.

Her proposed cataract surgery had been postponed for the time being, they said.

Ms. Sen, who has kept herself away from the public eye for last three decades, is being treated at a private cabin of the hospital's ITU (Intensive Treatment Unit).

She lives the life of a recluse and stays confined to her south Kolkata apartment.

Only a handful of people, mainly her family members, have seen her face to face in the last three decades.

Her daughter Moon Moon Sen and grand-daughters Riya and Raima, all actresses, take care of the ailing screen goddess who ruled the Bengali cinema screens with her pairing with Uttam Kumar, another great movie star.

She was the first Indian actress to win the best actress award at an international film festival (Moscow Film Festival).

She starred in memorable Hindi and Bengali films like 'Devdas' and 'Aandhi', 'Saat Paake Bandha', 'Agnipariksha', 'Saptopadi' and 'Deep Jele Jai'.
