Kochi: A petition has been field before the Kerala High Court seeking a directive to the the Cochin Port Trust to take immediate steps to stop dumping of sewage and garbage discharged from the vessels calling at the port in public places.
Petitioner K N Unnikrishnan of Kadavanthra submitted that both garbage and toilet waste are taken out of the port by private parties on the basis of the licence issued by the Port Trust.
"Wastes are dumped in public places and also in the Cochin port area. Most of the countries do not permit disposal of waste generated from the vessels in their territory. But the Cochin port is allowing this," the petitioner pointed out.
