Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M), heading the ruling LDF in Kerala, today said it has taken a decision on the post to be offered to party veteran VS Achuthanandan and the state Cabinet will take an appropriate call in this regard.

Senior party leader Prakash Karat was responding to a question about giving an honourable post to 92-year-old Achutanandan, who led the LDF to an impressive victory in the May 16 Assembly polls by vigorously campaigning.

"As far as our party is concerned, we have taken a decision and that will be translated into an appropriate decision by the cabinet," Mr Karat, a politbureau member, said.

On whether Mr Achuthanandan had agreed to the decision, he said "When something is decided (by the party) it will be in consultation and agreement with that person, it will not be unilateral decision."

When queried if the former leader of the opposition had agreed to the decision, he said "I said what is required will be done".

"Election campaign is one thing and running a government is different. Everybody has problems. All of us are getting old," he said.
