Kashmir continues to be in the grip of cold wave

Jammu: Kashmir division, including the Ladakh region, continued to be in the grip of intense cold
conditions as the night temperature at most parts stayed several degrees below the freezing point.

Leh town in Ladakh was the coldest place during the night in the Kashmir division,  recording a minimum of 9.6 degrees Celsius, a MET department official said.

While, Kargil town recorded a low of minus 9.4 deg C. In the Valley, famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place witnessing a minimum temperature
of minus 7.5 degrees C.

Pahalgam health resort in south Kashmir was the second coldest place at minus 6.4 degrees C followed by Qazigund minus 5.0 degrees C. Srinagar had a minimum of minus 4.7 degrees C and Kupwara was at minus 4.5 degrees C.

Kokernag town in Anantnag district recorded the highest minimum temperature with minus 2.1 degrees C. The National Disaster Management Cell has said that snowfall is expected in the Valley on December 28.
