Woman Commits Suicide, Note Blames UP Police For Failing To Find Parents' Murderers

The woman was reportedly depressed as the police haven't been able to locate the accused who killed her parents and robbed their home in March this year

Rakhi was the eldest of three siblings.

Uttar Pradesh: A 20-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh seven months after her parents were murdered in a robbery at her home. She was reportedly depressed and consumed Sulphas tablets on Saturday. A suicide letter allegedly written by her has been recovered in which she has blamed the police for failing to find her parents' murderers for her alleged suicide, police said.

Rakhi was the eldest of three siblings. The police are investigating the circumstances of her death, and the immediate trigger could have been an argument with her 14-year-old sister on Saturday night, the police said. They have a brother who is 17.

In a letter allegedly written by her, she has blamed the police for inaction.

Angry residents yesterday blocked the Mathura-Govardhan road in protest. The police had to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. The road block was lifted after the district police chief Swapnil Mamgain suspended the inspector in charge who was probing the double murder.

"There has been a lapse in investigation in the robbery case. Precious time has been wasted, but we will do our best to solve the case. The SHO of Highway police station, Girish Chandra Tewari, has been suspended and the probe has been given to crime branch with instructions to ensure early breakthrough," Mr Mamgai said.

Uttar Pradesh minister Shrikant Sharma said the state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family.

The family was sleeping when a group of robbers targeted their home in Mathura in March. The robbers escaped with cash and jewellery, but not before murdering her parents. The accused gouged out her mother's eyes. Their children survived the attack.

After the incident, the couple's children, relatives and neighbours held demonstration and sat on hunger strike demanding immediate action in the case. However, the police haven't been able to locate the killers.
