New Delhi:

Almost three months after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, wrestler Dalip Singh Rana, popularly known as The Great Khali, on Monday said he joined the BJP after being "impressed" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ideology.

While speaking to ANI, Khali also said he is proud of joining the BJP.

Khali's remarks came after he met Union Minister Jitendra Singh at his office in Delhi.

"I came to meet Dr Jitendra Singh. Now, I am going back. I came to meet him as he belongs to a hilly region like me. It was just a regular meeting," Khali said.

Asked about him joining the BJP, Khali said, "I am so proud of joining BJP. I joined the BJP after being impressed by the ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

Khali's meeting with Singh took place almost three months after he formally joined the BJP. He joined BJP in the second week of February in the presence of Jitendra Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Arun Singh and Lok Sabha MP Sunita Duggal.

Khali is well-known in the WWE Universe where he battled professional wrestlers like Batista, Shawn Michaels and even John Cena and Kane. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

The wrestler has appeared in films like "MacGruber", "Get Smart", and "The Longest Yard." He's also opened up a wrestling school, helping to get the next generation of wrestlers ready for the ring.

His induction into the BJP took place on the day of the first phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh when the BJP was gearing up for elections in four other states -- Manipur, Goa, Punjab and Uttarakhand -- in February and March.
