Textile Ministry Officer Caught In Bribery Case, Says CBI

A textiles ministry officer has been caught red-handed while trying to bribe a Delhi Police officer, the Central Bureau of Investigation has said. Inspector Kehar Singh, who was about to accept the bribe, has also been arrested.

Ashutosh Kumar Singh was being investigated by the police following a complaint of cheating. Agency officials said the man, who was in charge of the handlooms and handicrafts department, duped people by claiming to be a very senior officer.

Working on a tip-off the agency has caught Ashutosh Singh red-handed while he was about to bribe the inspector, Rs 3 lakh in cash were recovered from him.

During further searches at his homes in Delhi, Mumbai and Noida, the CBI recovered Rs 40 lakh in cash. Mr Singh owns 4 flats in Mumbai, one in Noida and also a bungalow at Mumbai.

The agency said they also recovered several fake business cards during these searches, in which Mr Singh had claimed to be Joint secretary to the government of India, Officer on Special Deputation to the home ministry, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and the ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

Earlier, Mr Singh had functioned as OSD to top ministers such as Shri Prakash Jaiswal, former labour minister Munilal, and was additional PS to former labour minister Sahib Singh Verma.
