The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted bail to suspended Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Ravi Inder Singh, accused of passing official information from the Home Ministry to unauthorised people.
Justice Mukta Gupta granted bail to him after going through the status report of Delhi Police which stated that he was not the main accused in the case.
Taking cognizance of the police report, the court granted bail to Singh, who was arrested November 23 last year. A chargesheet was filed on January 23.
Police said that instead of government accommodation, the suspended Home Ministry official had chosen to stay in a private guest house and the monthly rent of Rs 50,000 was being paid by a middleman working on behalf of a telecom company.
The middleman obliged Ravi Inder Singh, the then Director of Internal Security in the Home Ministry, as in return he wanted information about security clearance of a file relating to Britain-based firm Telcordia Technologies Inc, police said.
The court while granting bail to Ravi Inder Singh also took note of the fact that the co-accused and alleged middleman Vineet Kumar, CMD of Kolkata-based Temptation Food Pvt Ltd, was already on bail.
The 2,343-page charge sheet sought their prosecution under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) dealing with criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and bribing a government official.
The chargesheet contained transcripts of the recorded conversations between Ravi Inder Singh and Vineet Kumar, police said.
