Student suspended for vulgar remarks on Facebook
Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University has suspended a final year BA student for allegedly posting obscene remarks against his two female classmates on a social networking site.

"The university administration on Wednesday suspended Gaurav Ranjan, a student of Statistics, for three months and also debarred him from taking admission to any other course in  the varsity in future," BHU Press, Publication and Publicity (PPP) cell chairman Prof Rajesh Singh said on Thursday.

The move came after the anti-ragging squad of the varsity found him guilty following an inquiry.

Two batchmates of Gaurav, hailing from Jharkhand, had filed a complaint with the anti-ragging squad on November 23 alleging that he had posted vulgar remarks against them on social networking site Facebook and also sent them obscene e-mails.

The university also asked him to vacate the hostel, Singh said.

Gaurav was also taken to police station last night for questioning but was later released.

Lanka Police station SHO Mohan Verma said no police complaint was filed against Gaurav as the girls had expressed satisfaction over the university's action and stated that no police action is required.
