At 12 pm, Sensex was up 533.27 points or 0.69% at 78,099.43, and the Nifty was up 183.45 points or 0.76% at 24,211.50.

As per Nidhi Sharma, "Ambuja Cements' management highlighted its focus on improving capacity utilization and cost efficiency following a plant visit to its Sanghipuram facility in Kutch, Gujarat. The company's cement capacity currently stands at 109 mtpa and is expected to increase to 115 mtpa by Mar'26, with ~10 mtpa likely to be commissioned in the coming months. Management aims to improve utilization to ~80-85% to enhance returns. Since acquiring Sanghi Industries in Aug'23, the company has invested in stabilizing operations and reducing clinker production costs from Rs 2,400-2,500/t to below Rs 2,000/t, with further cost optimization underway. Additionally, the proposed merger of ACC and Orient Cement into Ambuja aims to create a unified "One Cement Platform" with pan-India scale and operational synergies."

Indian equity benchmarks extended their gains in late morning trade on Tuesday, with the Sensex rising 655 points to 78,221 and the Nifty climbing 217 points to 24,245 at 11:36 am.

The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap indices were trading 1.47% and 1.76% higher, respectively.

"The life insurance industry reported ~21% YoY growth in individual weighted received premium (WRP) in Feb'26, rebounding from ~9% growth in the previous month. Private insurers recorded ~20% YoY growth, while LIC outperformed with ~23% YoY growth for the third consecutive month. Among private players, CANHSBC Life led with ~61% YoY growth, followed by Max Life at 28%. HDFC Life, SBI Life, ICICI Prudential Life, and Bajaj Life grew 12%, 16%, 8%, and 15% YoY respectively. Industry new business premium rose ~18% YoY, supported by strong growth in LIC and private insurers. Overall growth momentum remains stable going forward," added Sharma.

According to stock market observer Nidhi Sharma, "The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is expected to push global defense spending higher as countries strengthen military preparedness and security capabilities. In this environment, India's defence sector could benefit from rising domestic procurement and increasing export opportunities, supported by the government's strong push for indigenization and self-reliance. Companies such as Bharat Electronics (BEL), Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), Bharat Dynamics (BDL), Astra Microwave Products (ASTM), and Zen Technologies are well positioned to benefit from expanding defense budgets and modernisation initiatives. However, in the near term, supply chain challenges-particularly for specialised components and imported subsystems-may impact the execution timelines of certain defense platforms and projects."

The National Stock Exchange of India has announced the inclusion of six stocks -- Adani Power, Cochin Shipyard, Hyundai Motor India, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, Nippon Life India Asset Management, and Vishal Mega Mart -- in the F&O segment, effective April 1.

Flexi-cap funds dropped 8.67%, while large-cap funds sank 6.98%. At -1.16%, Motilal Oswal Large Cap Fund experienced the least amount of decrease. The Samco Flexi Cap Fund saw a 23.38% decline.

Gold prices were largely steady on Tuesday as investors remained cautious amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The Nasdaq 100 Index advanced on Monday as dip-buyers took advantage of concerns around the prospect of a prolonged war in Iran amid rising energy prices and inflation concerns.

US President Donald Trump threatened Iran if it tried to close the Strait of Hormuz, the shipping lane where oil tanker transit has already virtually halted, sending energy prices soaring around the world. Brent crude prices declined 11% to $88.05 per barrel on Tuesday so far following Trump's remarks. It was trading 10.55% down at $88.52 per barrel as of 8:00 am, according to data on Bloomberg. 

"The ministry has prioritised domestic LPG supply to households and introduced 25 day inter- booking period to avoid hoarding/black marketing. Non domestic supplies from imported LPG is being prioritised to essential non domestic sectors such as Hospitals and Educational institutions," the official notification said.

US President Donald Trump said Monday that the war against Iran could be short-lived, but he left open the possibility of an escalation in fighting if global oil supplies are disrupted by the Islamic Republic, which chose a new hard-line supreme leader. Oil prices briefly shot to their highest level since 2022 a day after Iran selected Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his late father as Iran's supreme leader.
