SP says it may have post-poll alliance with Congress
Ghaziabad, Mainpuri:

The Samajwadi Party on Thursday said it may be "forced" to have a post-poll alliance with Congress but indicated that it would not be without conditions as the party wanted the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh to be dismissed.

"The youth, farmers and traders, all are disheartened with the UP government. We will support whoever dismisses the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh," SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters in Mainpuri.

The former UP Chief Minister said "the trend after three phases of polling shows that no government at the Centre would be possible without SP's support".

He said the party's parliamentary board and MPs would meet after the elections to take a call on the issue of extending support.

"Everything would depend on the post-poll equations and the numbers, and taking all these things into account, we will decide," Yadav said.

SP general secretary Amar Singh said in Ghaziabad that "Since we cannot go with the Third Front as Mayawati is already there, for the sake of secularism, we may be forced to look at Congress."

He added that his party's possible relationship with Congress "will be more on practical lines" and "not a relationship of the heart".
