Some Shopian evidence destroyed: Omar

Some Shopian evidence destroyed: Omar
Srinagar:

The contents of the Shopian inquiry report are out and a close reading of it shows that it is inconclusive in its findings.

The report has asked for deeper investigations, saying "unfortunate obstructions" prevented them from identifying those behind the rape and murder of the two women.

Reacting to the findings of the report, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that it's true certain evidence has been destroyed.

"While it is true that certain amount of evidence has been destroyed, it is also true that the High Court has ordered a fresh exhumation of the bodies with a view to collect fresh evidence. It will possibly lead to the culprits and not only the people who have destroyed the evidence. Let us wait and see," said Omar.

While the report confirms that the two women were indeed raped and murdered, it indicts both the police and CRPF for destruction of evidence and their possible role in the crime, saying their involvement cannot be ruled out.

It also points the needle of suspicion at personal vendetta and family feuds, saying they could have been a factor.

The report goes on to say culprits could not be identified because of 'unfortunate obstructions'. The Commission has asked for further investigations.
