Soldier Killed In Sniper Fire By Pakistan In Jammu And Kashmir's Macchil Sector

New Delhi: A soldier died in sniper firing by Pakistani troops at the Line of Control at Jammu and Kashmir's Machhil sector, prompting retaliation by the army which targeted Pakistani posts with heavy weapons.

In Sopore, meanwhile, two terrorists were killed in an operation, which is still on. Two weapons have been recovered from them.

There have been more than 100 ceasefire violations by Pakistan since September 29, when the army conducted surgical strikes on terror launch-pads across the Line of Control.

Yesterday, a jawan was killed and two others were injured in Pakistani shelling in Nowshera sector of the state's Rajouri district. One of the injured jawans succumbed to his injuries last night.

On Monday, Pakistani troops had also targeted Mankote and Balakote areas of Mendhar sector in Poonch district.

On November 6, two soldiers were killed and five others were injured as Pakistani army opened fire in an attempt to facilitate two infiltration bids along the LoC in Krishna Ghati and Poonch sectors.

The worst-ever Pakistani shelling targeting civilian population took place on November 1 when eight persons, including two children and four women, were killed and 22 others injured along the International Border and the LoC in five sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
