Smog cover over Delhi stays

New Delhi: Saturday's unusual, thick smog over the Capital remained on Sunday morning. With no wind conditions developing, the smog is set remain through the day with some improvement in visibility expected later.

The haze over the city made even the afternoon look like a bleary morning on Saturday, with people are complaining of burning sensation in the eyes, breathlessness and nausea.

Doctors and experts are dealing with hundreds of worried calls asking if this is a fallout of the Jaipur oil depot fire.

The weathermen say high levels of humidity, which is about 92% on Saturday, clubbed with low wind conditions have created the condition. Also there are high clouds due to approaching western disturbance.

"Western disturbance is approaching India and it will hit J&K and Uttrakhand on November 8 & 9 when there will be rain also. Moisture in air in Delhi has increased and that's why this smog has happened. It has no connection with Jaipur fire," said R C Vashisth, a Met Department official.

Pollution levels have been steadily going up in Delhi for the past three years.
