Six suspended for allegedly beating truck driver to death
Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh: A Passenger Tax Officer (PTO) and five transport department constables have been suspended after an FIR was lodged against them for allegedly beating a truck driver to death, a senior officer said here on Wednesday.

Five constables Manoj Singh, C B Singh, Gunjan Tiwari, Janmejay Singh and Shiv Narayan along with PTO Aarif Khan were suspended on Tuesday, Regional Transport Officer Amritlal said.

The police have also registered an FIR against over 50 people for inciting violence in the Naubatpur area in the aftermath of the truck driver's death.

Truck driver Ashwami Kumar Gupta had been beaten to death allegedly by transport department employees after he failed to pay Rs 5,000 as bribe during a vehicle checking drive in Alinagar area in Chandauli district on Monday.

Agitated over the incident, locals had blocked the National Highway 2 and resorted to violence.
