Prime Minister Narendra Modi Congratulates Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth for winning the women's and men's singles titles, respectively, at the China Open Super Series Premier in Fuzhou on Sunday.

"A wonderful day for Indian badminton! Congrats to @NSaina & K Srikanth for the victories at the China Open Super Series Badminton Tournament," tweeted Mr Modi.

While Ms Nehwal clinched the women's title of the $700,000 event, compatriot Mr Srikanth grabbed all the headlines by pulling off the biggest triumph of his career when he upset two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan in the final.

Sixth seeded Ms Nehwal won her second Super Series title of 2014, after the Australian Open in June, by overcoming Japanese Akane Yamaguchi 21-12, 22-20 in 42 minutes, to be followed by Mr Srikanth, who stunned the five-time World Champion Chinese 21-19, 21-17 in 46 minutes at the Haixia Olympic Sport Center.
