New Delhi/Jammu: The BJP may be veering around to the possibility of forming government in Delhi with party president Amit Shah saying that he did not "find anything immoral in seeking support to form a government."

"Our party got the mandate in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, and we think that mandate stands. I do not find anything immoral in seeking support to form a government," Mr Shah said in a programme aired on a private news channel.

"Everybody wants to avoid fresh elections in Delhi," the BJP President said, adding that "BJP is the single largest party and it has the right to form a government."

On Saturday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the party would take a call on government formation once a formal proposal was received from Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, adding the party "doesn't believe in horse-trading". (Read)

Mr Jung has reportedly recommended to President Pranab Mukherjee that the option of inviting the single largest party, the BJP, to form government in Delhi must be explored.

The BJP and its ally, with 29 legislators, are five short of a majority and the top leadership is said to be divided on whether the party should try to make up the numbers if it is invited to form government or then decline as it did after the state elections last December.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have come down hard on Mr Jung, accusing him of promoting "horse-trading". on Friday, the AAP urged the President against accepting the "unconstitutional advice" from the Lieutenant Governor, and sought "fresh elections" in Delhi.
