Mumbai blasts: Was a suicide bomber involved?

Mumbai: As investigators try to figure out who is responsible for Wednesday's serial blasts in Mumbai, they're examining whether a suicide bomber may have been involved.

A severed head was found in the hours after the blast. Doctors at a hospital in Mumbai also discovered an electrical circuit embedded in a dead body brought in from the location of one of the three blasts. When asked if either of these bodies may be that of a suicide bomber, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told NDTV that the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) used in the three blasts were triggered by electronic timers. That, he said, "would rule out the possibility of a human bomb."  But, he added, "No route, no theory should be ruled out. We have told police to look even at the remotest possibility." Intelligence sources have said that the bombs were set off using alarms on smart-phones.

About the body that had the electrical circuit attached to it, Mr Chavan said, "Maybe the body was too close to the impact of the explosion."
