Modi's moves against Ranganath Report

Modi's moves against Ranganath Report
Ahmedabad: For the upcoming Assembly Session, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has chalked out his hardline Hindutva move.

He plans to pass a resolution, urging the Centre to reject the recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission Report, which says the Dalits who have converted to Islam and Christianity should continue to get the benefits of reservations.

"The state's Social Welfare Minister, Fakir Vaghelaji, will introduce a resolution in the Assembly which will ask the Centre to reject these recommendations," said Ashok Bhatt, Speaker, Gujarat Assembly.

"The copy of the report is not even available in the Assembly library. How can it be discussed? Modi is making mockery of democratic institutions," Leader of the Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil said.

The Ranganath Commission report has not yet been tabled, even in the Lok Sabha.

So to begin the Assembly session on this note, Modi's critics say, shows the state BJP's desperation to cling to its hardcore Hindutva image, which had for a while been diluted by Modi's desire to be seen as a man of development and progress.
