Mayawati explains BSP stand on support to government: Highlights

Lucknow: A day after addressing a massive rally in Lucknow, BSP chief Mayawati met her national executive meeting to decide on her to support to the UPA 2. Mayawati, whose party has 21 MPs in Lok Sabha is giving outside support to the government along with Samajwadi Party's 22 MPs.

On the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail, Mayawati left the door open saying her party workers have left it up to her to decide on whether they will continue to support the government or not.


Highlights of her announcement:

  • The attitude of the government towards the upliftment of backward classes and economically weaker sections has been disappointing
  • This government has no measures to fight corruption.
  • The economic situation is also very bad.
  • The national executive of the BSP has decided that a final decision will rest with me on continuing support to the UPA government.
  • Today, the parliamentary party also endorsed the decision of the national executive.
  • When I finally decide on this matter, I will inform you... a decision will be taken soon. 
  • We are ready to fight elections whenever they are announced.
  • We will  get good results in Lok Sabha polls and we will emerge as a 'balance of power'
  • Now that the rally is done and we have discussed the UPA government's policies, the final decision  has been left to me; there will be no delay, we will decide soon.
