Maoist bandh: States in red corridor on high alert

New Delhi: The Maoists have called a two-day bandh starting today to protest against their top leader Azad's killing in Adilabad.

The Central government has asked Maoist-hit states to remain vigilant and take all possible steps to foil any attempt of violence, including hostage-like situations.

The Home Ministry asked the Naxal-affected states and the Railways to take necessary action to guard railway properties, tracks, public places, markets and other vital installations to avoid any untoward incident during the 48-hour bandh.

The South Eastern Railway has advanced by two hours the "night curfew"  for trains running through the Maoist-affected Jungle Mahal in view of the two-day bandh.

Trains that pass through parts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia will not run between 8pm and 5am on July 7 and 8.

The Steel Express and Howrah-Purulia Express have been cancelled during the bandh days.

A special passenger train will run between Tatanagar and Kharagpur on the 2 days, leaving Tatanagar at 4.30pm. (With PTI Inputs)
