Freed by pirates after 11 months, 17 Indian sailors return home

Mumbai: After a long wait, it was finally a moment of joy for the families of 17 Indian sailors, who returned to Mumbai on Monday night after over 11 months of captivity. Their Italian oil tanker - Savina Caylyn - was hijacked by Somalian pirates in February last year.

Italian media claims 8.8 million euros were paid to arrange for the release for the captive sailors. The Italian Home Ministry, however, has denied such reports.

Over 40 Indian sailors are still being held hostage by Somalian pirates.
