A senior leader of the DMK, Trichy Siva, has been admitted to hospital after he collapsed in the Rajya Sabha while his party was protesting loudly over the government's failure to take a strong stand against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva.
Mr Siva is the Deputy Leader of the DMK in the Rajya Sabha. His party quit the government on Wednesday, accusing the centre of watering down the UN resolution.
Mr Siva and others from the DMK and AIADMK were shouting slogans in the House; some damaged the chairperson's microphone. They were asked to show some restraint by Congress leader Renuka Choudhary who was presiding over the proceedings in the Upper House. Members of the two Southern parties say she used "unparliamentary language" and plan to move a breach of privilege motion.
While protesting, Mr Siva fell on a chair and was shifted to hospital.
Earlier this week, another DMK member, Vasanthi Stanley, fainted in the Rajya Sabha when the party disrupted the House over the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils.
