New Delhi: India witnessed an unprecedented surge of 1,45,384 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day surge so far, as the country's tally surged to 1,32,05,0926. Night curfews and restrictions are back in many parts amid concerns over second Covid wave

  1. Active cases in the country have now passed the 10 lakh-mark. With 32.8 lakh total cases so far, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state.

  2. This is the fourth consecutive day that India has recorded more than 1 lakh cases in a day. In the last 24 hours, 794 people died; 1,68,436 people have died so far.

  3. Over 6.16 lakh fresh infections have been reported just in the last five days. 3,335 people have died during this period.

  4. More than 9.78 crore doses of vaccines have been administered so far in India. However, several states have claimed they're facing vaccine shortage despite repeated assurances from the government.

  5. Across the country, fresh curbs are being imposed to contain the spread of infection. Weekend lockdown starts from today in Maharashtra, which recorded 58,993 Covid cases in the last 24 hours.

  6. The state, worst-hit in India, is headed towards a lockdown if the situation does not change, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had earlier told NDTV.

  7. In Delhi, all schools and colleges have been shut till further notice, the Arvind Kerjiwal government announced on Friday.

  8. Madhya Pradesh too has announced restrictions in cities till Monday. Bengaluru and six other cities in Karnataka have also enforced a night curfew till April 20.

  9. The Election Commission on Friday said candidates and star campaigners can be banned from holding campaign rallies if COVID-19 safety rules are not followed. However, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puduchery and Assam have already voted. 44 seats in Bengal are voting for the fourth phase today.

  10. Worldwide, over 13 crore cases have been recorded so far; 29.15 lakh people have died.
