Jammu: Apprehending infiltration of militants in the wake of the deteriorating security situation across the border, BSF has asked its counterpart in Pakistan to undertake counter measures and upgrade its security set up.
The border force raised the issue with the Pakistani Rangers while reviewing security situation along the international border in the state at a flag meeting at octroi border outpost in R S Pura border belt of Jammu district on Monday night, a BSF officer said on Tuesday.
BSF officers pointed to the deteriorating security situation across and also the suspicious movement along the border line and impressed upon Pakistani rangers to undertake measures to stop infiltrating militants and upgrade security to create a peaceful and secured environment along the border line, the officer said.
The BSF also sought close coordination between the two security establishments so that designs of the militants were foiled.
On their part, Pakistani authorities assured BSF that they will undertake measures to ensure that there is no cross border movement, he said.
At the meeting, the Indian side was represented by DIG A K Sharma and DIG C Vasudev, while Pakistani side was represented by Chenab rangers commander Brigadier Masood Ahmed, sector commanders Jamal Shah and Sohail Raja besides Col Asif.
According to intelligence sources, around 400 militants are ready to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to keep the pot of militancy boiling and disturb Lok Sabha elections in the country.
The two sides also discussed issues relating to setting up of security bunkers, inadvertent crossing of the border by dwellers living along the border besides straying of animals.
